Q & A
Who are you and what is your role at Chesley Brown
Vice President – Risk Management, Training, & Compliance. One of my many responsibilities is the management of insurance claims, which sometimes do impact the client. I work with adjusters, and sometimes attorneys to try and bring about mutually acceptable resolutions to insurance claims that affect the client. Additionally, I work to ensure employee training is completed, maintain regulatory licenses, and work to ensure quality control so that we are delivering the best service possible.
How long have you been on the Chesley Brown team?
23 years
What do you enjoy most about working here?
It probably sounds very much cliché at this point, but it very much is like a family. I am fortunate to work out of the Kansas City, MO office, specifically with Josh and Kim, which are two people I have worked with for 23 years and almost 20 years respectively. Outside of that, there are so many relationships I have with people in Atlanta and Pittsburgh that have also spanned many years, along with more recent ones in the Nashville area. When you have the opportunity to work with a group of people for so long, it definitely feels like a 2nd family.
What is your proudest moment working at Chesley Brown?
After 23 years of experiences, I really can’t zero in on just one. There’s been too many to mention.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received regarding your career, and how has it influenced you?
I can’t really think of any specific advice I’ve received. What I can say is that I’m only where I’m at today because I was fortunate enough to run into some very good mentors over the years. There’s really what I would call (4) essential people that I’ve learned from, and those (4) people are mostly the reason I am where I am today.
What do you do when you aren’t at work?
Annoy my kids, go to airshows, go to car shows, fishing, visit museums, long drives in the country with some loud music, or wander a trail at a lake or wooded area away from civilization.
What’s your favorite thing about the city or town where you work, and what’s one hidden gem you’d recommend to visitors?
To me, Kansas City is the perfect sized city to live in. Generally, it’s just big enough that we have professional sports teams, a nice airport with lots of non-stop flight options, generally nice people, and you can mostly find anything you want that other big cities have. However, it’s not so big that traffic is a nightmare and it’s not overly crowded. Not sure if this qualifies as a hidden gem or not, but if I had to recommend something to visitors, it would be to come here in the fall season. We have some great fall festivals and events around the city. Apple Fest in Weston is pretty good, but there are several to choose from.
If you could choose any fictional character to join your security team, who would it be and why?
Not sure which one specifically, but it would be a Star Wars thing. It would be a Jedi. It would be great to have someone who could use the force to see the future, and prevent the problems from happening in the first place. Light sabers would probably serve as a pretty strong deterrent too.
If you could have dinner with any three people (dead or alive, real or fictional), who would they be and what would you eat?
It would definitely be my Dad, Grandfather, and my Uncle Steve, who have all passed. All three of them had a tremendous impact on who I am, and they were a fun, hilarious, and adventurous bunch in their time. Can say with a 100% certainty that if all four of us could sit down for a dinner, it would include fried catfish…and probably a few beers.
Conclusion
Archie’s promotion to Vice President is a significant milestone for both him and Chesley Brown. There can be no argument that technology has infiltrated virtually every aspect of daily life for the vast majority of people and businesses across the world. Technology is woven into the social fabric of everyday life. It monitors our movements, our interests, our purchasing power, our locations, habits, our risk to insurers, our body chemistry, and health. Our images are captured overtly and unknowingly 1000’s of times daily. It captures the best of us in amazing acts of heroism and human interaction, and it captures the worst of us; for accountability and delivery of justice.
